Reading Time Five Minutes *

The headline is cribbed from a local sportswriter. It’s a regular column in the Post-Dispatch for a clearinghouse of quick hits on multiple topics. There’s lots on the Pop Culture newswire, but nothing worthy of a whole blog. I like it, and I’m appropriating stealing the meme. There are some days I don’t blog because the thought isn’t big enough, and this format might serve the nerve.

Tracy Morgan: Everybody loves Tracy. Has there been a character in the history of entertainment who is more beloved for delivering other people’s lines since Charlie McCarthy? Much like his character on 30 Rock, Tracy Jordan, Tracy Morgan has become a character of a character of himself.  Very meta for such a simple guy. Tracy says he hardly ever watches TV. He relaxes in front of his giant shark tank. Or his octopus tank.

Here’s hoping he recovers quickly and completely. I hope the scuttlebutt about him losing a leg to amputation turns out to be manufactured drama for the benefit of the press. In the meantime, live every week like it’s Shark Week. You just never know when you will be blindsided by eighteen wheels of fate. shark week

Most Disturbing Teacher Sex Scandal in History: A dolphin trainer gave her charge a handjob every day so he could concentrate on learning how to talk out of his blowhole.

Footnote, Petey the Pervy Dolphin finally mastered the skill of talking through his blowhole and is now in his sixth term as Congressmammal from Dade County, FL. delete

New in Narrowcasting: Sony announced its first creative project for streaming direct to PlayStation users: An adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis’s terrifically smart comic book, Powers. Despite the fact that I no longer have a PlayStation and my son’s PlayStation is now part of the drug economy, I was elated. powers2 Then I found out it was animated. And I lost interest.*  Too bad. I know a lot of folks rave the animated superhero stuff, like The Brave and the Bold, and Under the Red Hood. I just can’t do it. I can’t do manga. I can’t do Dragonball Z. I’ve tried. For a while, Powers was in development as a live action series for the FX Channel with Jason Patric attached. that would have been awesome. patricwalker Props to my son though. He was collecting Powers from Issue 1. He was got into Walking Dead somewhere around Issue 7. He loaded me into Kick Ass early. I still love that title. Maybe one of these days we’ll finally see Ex Machina some to the big screen, as well as The Boys. Two of my faves. As a judger of pictopanographic horses, my progeny has an eye for talent.
