A Thin Line between Inanity and Boredom

I can’t remember the source. I’m not sure if it was part of a SNL skit, or a character on television, or my son’s girlfriend who said something to the effect of, “I wish there really was an Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind machine that could selectively wipe a memory. I’d wipe out my memory of The Wire and start watching it all over again.”

I loved The Wire, back in the day, but I stopped watching a couple episodes into Season Two. No issues, I just think my binge-watching brain muscles wern’t as ready for marathon distances back then. I took a break and never came back.

The Achilles’s Heel of being a cord-cutter is Network Daytime Television.  Pee fucking yew.

So I’ve had The Wire on in the background while I’m working from home.  Started back with Season One to refresh my memory. God damn that is a well-written show. I love the made up street argot coined originally by Richard Price.  “Mooks.” Perfect.

I’m baffled that the singular breakout star of the series turned out to be Idris Elba.  What the heck does Dominic West have to do to get promoted to B-Lister?  You know he’s actually British, right? McNulty was a pitch-perfect Baltimore accent. Jeez.

My Beautiful Wife and I will be participating in a shooting competition on Saturday morning, the first with my new gat, Gretchen. We’ll see if the new toy has any discernible effect on my score. After last time, nowhere to go but up.

I’m a bit dry on creative juices today, so I’ll duck out early.

Happy Friday, everyone. Enjoy your weekend. Make the most of the weather. Take a moment to let somebody you love know they were on your mind today. You just never know.
